The history of rallies in Oman The first signs and initiatives for the practice of the rallies sport appeared in Oman by the end of last century, especially in the year 1977 after a group of amateur rally fans prepared some private cars despite their lack of experience in this area and the limited availability of spare parts required in this field. And this formed the first nucleus for the sport of rally cars in general until the first Middle East rally championship had been officially organized in 1979 with the Sultanate of Oman hosting one of the Middle East rally championship rounds with the participation of a good number of rally champions from the Middle East. The Swedish driver Harry Calcrom – Datsun 160 managed to win first place at the rally, and the Kenyan driver Chiker Muhanna came in second place in this race which witnessed many of the roads and tracks that the Oman Sultanate is famous for.
